⭐️ 3 Simple Ways to Improve Your Next Interview

You can have the right experience, skills and qualifications for a role — but how you communicate them in an interview can make all the difference.

At Vardey Recruitment, we speak to lots of candidates who are excellent at what they do but don't always find interviews easy. And that's completely normal.

Here are three simple ways to feel more confident and make a stronger impression.

✨ 1. Don't rush your answer
When you're nervous, it's easy to feel you need to answer immediately.

You don't.

Taking a moment to think before you respond can actually make you appear more confident and considered.

If you need a second, simply say:

"That's a good question. Let me think of the best example."

Then take a breath, sip some water and then answer.

Confidence isn't about speaking quickly. It's about speaking with purpose.

✨ 2. Give your answers some structure
When we're nervous, we can easily give too much information — and lose sight of the question.

A simple structure can help:

Situation → What you did → Result

Rather than saying "I'm good at improving processes," explain what you actually did and what happened as a result.

Before your interview, think of a few strong examples from your career:

A problem you solved
An achievement you're proud of
A difficult situation you handled
A process you improved
Something you learned from
You don't need to memorise answers. Just have your examples ready - can you can take your note pad in with you!

✨ 3. Remember, it's a two-way conversation
An interview isn't an interrogation.

Yes, the employer is deciding whether you're right for the role — but you're deciding whether they're right for you too.

Listen to what they're telling you. Ask questions. Be interested in the business and the role.

When you're asked "Do you have any questions for us?", don't be afraid to use the opportunity.

Try:

"What would success look like in this role after six months?"

or

"What are the biggest challenges facing the team at the moment?"

Good questions show genuine interest and help you decide whether the opportunity is right for you.

⭐️ One final Clare Vardey tip!
Don't try to be someone you're not.

Preparation is important. Know your CV, understand the role, research the company and have some examples ready.

But then relax and have a conversation.

The best interviews aren't necessarily the most rehearsed. They're the ones where the interviewer comes away thinking:

"I can see this person fitting into our team."

You don't need to be perfect.

You just need to clearly show who you are, what you can do and the value you could bring to the role and business.

🙏 Good luck — and if you're interviewing right now and don't hesitate to reach out if I can be of any further support ❤️
