Vardey Recruitment is retained to recruit an Accountant to join Rowans Hospice to be appointed as the Finance Manager, based in Purbrook near Waterlooville/Portsmouth (Hampshire). This fantastic job would interest an ambitious Accountant / Assistant Accountant keen to step into a Finance Manager Job, or maybe a Financial Controller keen to work for this amazing charity. Working closely with the fantastic Financial Director, who will offer training and development if required; and as a team you will lead the Finance function forward.

Rowans provide free care and support to adults in the local community who have life-limiting illness and this extends to the families as well. Their dedicated hospice care is available round the clock in house or at home, as well as offering services for day visitors in their Living Well Centre. 

Key duties include
  • Support the FD with the preparation of the annual and statutory accounts according to year-end timetable.
  • The Accountant will be responsible for the production of the management accounts at month end.
  • To supervise balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow, budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide analysis for decision making and strategy formation.
  • Working closely with the FD to understand the causes for deviations and look at strategies for improvements.
  • To ensure payroll and pensions activity is accurate and timely.
  • Supporting with the management of the finance team – to include KPI reviews, workflow planning, training and development and mentoring.
  • To be a business partner to the charity to maximise collaborative working and to integrate finance into the service and show the value of the finance function in decision making and other operational decisions.
  • Provide information and analysis of costs to provide a focus for all budget holders to enable them to review their costs and make the right decisions.
  • Acting as the Financial Lead in the organisation.
  • To be a catalyst and champion for change and implement new practices to transform the finance function!
Who should apply?
  • Ideally a fully qualified accountant or part qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent or qualified by experience accountant.
  • A Finance Manager, Management Accountant or Assistant Accountant or even an experienced Financial Controller keen to work for the charity.
  • Business partnering skills and commercially astute.
  • Solution focused with good interpersonal skills.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to influence decision making.
  • Strong IT skills desirable experience of NetSuite or other ERP systems.
