Accounts Assistant - Finance Assistant

We are delighted to be recruiting an Accounts Assistant / Finance Assistant to join our client’s fantastic finance team based in Christchurch (near Bournemouth in Dorset). Following an internal promotion this Accounts Assistant job offers an excellent opportunity to develop your accounting skills within a supportive and welcoming environment.

Working closely with the Finance Manager and wider finance team, you will play a key role in day-to-day banking operations, reconciliations, expense processing, and balance sheet analysis plus more!

This role would suit someone with an understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, ideally AAT studying or AAT qualified, or maybe an accountancy graduate with work experience who enjoys working with detail and has strong Excel skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Daily posting of bank receipts
  • Daily posting and reconciliation of card payment
  • Investigation and resolution of discrepancies on all bank accounts
  • Weekly and monthly bank reconciliations
  • Providing banking data and cash flow movement information to management
  • Holiday cover and assistance with bank reconciliations
  • Expenses & Journals
  • Posting of credit card and miscellaneous expenses
  • Ensuring correct treatment of irrecoverable VAT
  • Preparing and posting general ledger journals
  • Liaising with internal staff to ensure accuracy of banking entries
Additional Duties:
  • Balance sheet work
  • Assisting the Purchase Ledger team and ad hoc holiday over in the wider finance team
  • Involvement in ad-hoc and project work
  • Process improvement initiatives
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Studying towards or qualified in AAT, or AAT Qualified or the role may interest an accountancy graduate with accountancy / finance experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping
  • Experience with bank reconciliations, expenses and purchase ledger/accounts payable preferrable
  • Good Excel and general IT skills
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
